DEPTFORD BABY FUNDING CAMPAIGN

Hi, my name is Chukwudi Onwere, I was born and raised in Peckham, south-east London. I currently live in Forest Hill, south-east London. I am an East 15 alumni, a graduate of East 15 Acting School, part of University of Essex, 2009 - 2012.

I am raising money to stage my one man theatre play that I have written - and will be performing in - called 'Deptford Baby'.

The target is £25,000

The money will enable me to hire the theatre, pay the creative team, sound, lighting, insurance, stage manager, DJ, marketing and more. Deptford Baby will run for two weeks in May 2024 at Brockley Jack Studio Theatre, south-east London.

I wrote Deptford Baby during the 2020 Covid-19 lockdown.

The play started as a short video piece at Brockley Jack Studio Theatre, as part of Past Present Future Writer's Project 2021. I then took it upon myself to further develop the piece for a sixty minute play.

I did a rehearsed reading performance of Deptford Baby last October 2022 at Leander Community Centre in Deptford. It was well received by a reviewer: itsbraap.blogspot.com/2022/11/deptford-baby-chukwudi-onwere-its-braap.html

I am excited about writing an urban, multicultural and vibrant love story about a man called Chino, who - with the support of his community - fights for justice and overcomes obstacles that tend to hinder people's hopes and dreams.

As a professional actor, it has always been my dream to perform in my own one man play - with a live DJ on set!
