Urban Turtle Project
Donation protected
The Urban Turtle Project aims to document various turtle populations inhabiting the urban creeks and rivers of Birmingham. Another goal of the project is to enhance the public's awareness of local turtle diversity and the threats they face through volunteer participation and public education. To date, over 100 turtles have been tagged and released.
Donations will allow the purchase of a PIT tag reader and PIT tags. These tags are similar to the microchips that people use with their pets. The application of PIT tags to captured turtles provide another way to identify individuals, which will improve the overall accuracy of the study.
Donations will also go toward the purchase of scale equipment that will allow the weighing of captured turtles (both large and small).
