Urgent Aid for Delia's Critical Condition
Donación protegida
I am seeking support for my sister-in-law, Delia Aguilar, who has been courageously fighting cancer since 2022. Initially diagnosed with breast cancer, she underwent chemotherapy and a mastectomy which, by God’s grace, resulted in her celebrating her treatment completion with a bell-ringing ceremony. For a time thereafter, things seemed hopeful as she regained a great deal of her strength back along with the regrowth of her beautiful hair. However, on February 21, 2024 she began experiencing severe headaches which prompted MRIs that ultimately revealed tumors. Two days later, on February 23rd, a craniotomy allowed doctors to remove the largest tumor. This was followed up by radiation for the smaller ones and the start of monthly visits to MD Anderson in Houston.
Once again, the slight progress being experienced resulted in a positive outlook and some newfound hope. In September, though, Delia began experiencing unexplained back pain. Scans eventually revealed the existence of cancerous cells in her spine. By December she started radiation treatment, which temporarily alleviated her back pain and discomfort. Unfortunately, further evaluations confirmed that she had leptomeningeal disease (LMD), an aggressive form of cancer. At this point, doctors estimated that she had only months to live. In an attempt to manage fluid buildup in her brain, a PV shunt was placed, but her condition has continued to deteriorate since then. Last Thursday, January 31st, she had an appointment with her doctor that did not go well and resulted with her immediate admission to the ICU at VBMC - Harlingen. As of today, February 7, 2025, Delia remains critically ill in the ICU and intubated while trying to fight this terminal cancer that has severely affected her respiratory system. The medical team has advised the family that she currently has but days left, and we are now faced with the heartbreaking decision to sign a DNR and possible transition to palliative care.
Despite Delia’s roughly 3 year battle with cancer, the family never imagined that things would take such a sudden and drastic turn, as they have in these past 2 months. Additionally, it was recently discovered that she was never able to be added/denied addition to a life insurance policy (due to her having cancer) that her husband secured when he got hired on with the state of Texas in late 2023. As a result, her husband and 2 children - 6 & 3 years old are left to start making sudden funeral arrangements that they currently feel ill-prepared for. We completely understand that times are tough right now but come before you and humbly ask for ANY assistance that you might be able to offer up to her beautiful family. Thank you all kindly, in advance, for taking the time to read her story and for ANY and ALL support during this difficult time.
