Urgent Aid for Family Facing Cancer Crisis
Donation protected

Greetings to all my family and friends. I am not sure who is aware, but back in October of 2023, I was diagnosed with Non-Hodgkin's Follicular Lymphoma stage 3. I was doing pretty good and was not in need of treatment for almost a year. Unfortunately, things took a turn for the worse, and in September, the cancer began causing fluid to start building up in my lungs.
Since then, in 2024, I have been admitted to the hospital four times for pleural effusion, and they have drained my lungs five times already. This continues to be a problem as fluid is drained and several days later comes right back. Due to this, the doctors needed to start my chemotherapy and immunotherapy ASAP, and on September 25 and 26, I had my first treatment. They did pathology for the fluid in my lungs and learned that it's malignant cancer cells, which have moved me from stage III to stage IV.
I was terribly ill for several days after treatment, unable to eat and unable to get out of bed. Subsequently, I was unable to work for almost a month. Since I have no time at work, I was out sick without pay. I am embarrassed and ashamed to ask, but I need financial assistance. I am trying to raise money so that I can pay my rent. I tried applying for assistance through DSS and was denied.
I have no disability insurance or other available funds to help. I live paycheck to paycheck, so I don't have a savings. I am asking that if anyone is able to assist with any amount of money to help me, I would most graciously appreciate it. I'm a single parent and have three children, one of whom is also disabled and had spine surgery in September and is recovering at home. They are also in need.
Please help if you can. Any amount you can give will be deeply appreciated. I thank you for your kindness and support during this difficult time.
Reaching out for help isn't easy for us. In the field of social services, we are used to being the ones offering support rather than asking for it. But, we are also reminded of the power of family and community both near and far, so after careful consideration, we have decided to start this GoFundMe campaign.
If you feel moved to do so, your support will help us manage the continued financial burden of Valerie’s household financial needs, allowing us to focus on what matters most-her recovery, healing and support.
Thank you always for your love, prayers, and support, both professionally and personally.
With gratitude and love, Julia & Valerie
