Urgent Appeal: Support the Kachin Relief Fund UK
Dear Friends and Colleagues,
I am writing to urgently bring attention to the dire situation faced by the Kachin people along the China border in far-north Burma. The Kachin Relief Fund UK (KRF) is striving to alleviate the suffering of internally displaced persons (IDPs) who have been gravely impacted by the ongoing conflict in the region.
As we approach the 13th anniversary of this crisis on June 9th, 2024, it is imperative to recognize that over 120,000 Kachin IDPs, comprising nearly 10% of the Kachin population, are trapped in a cycle of violence perpetuated by the Burmese military regime. The relentless artillery attacks and airstrikes have destroyed more than 400 villages and 24 townships, leaving families displaced and vulnerable.
For over a decade, Kachin IDPs have endured unimaginable hardships, including constant fear, anxiety, and the loss of their homes and livelihoods. The lack of humanitarian assistance has only exacerbated their suffering, with many facing starvation, disease, and the horrifying reality of human trafficking, particularly affecting women and children.
In light of this crisis, we urgently appeal for your support to provide vital aid to the Kachin people and their families. Your contributions will directly assist in delivering emergency relief and essential services to those most in need, including food, shelter, and medical assistance.
The Kachin Relief Fund UK (Charity number 1148586), established in 2009 by the Kachin community in the UK, is dedicated to addressing the urgent needs of our compatriots back home. Through collaborative efforts with local NGOs, civil society organizations, and religious institutions, KRF continues to provide humanitarian aid and support programs for IDPs and communities affected by the conflict.
We implore you to stand in solidarity with the Kachin people during this critical time and to amplify their voices on the global stage. Let us not forget their plight and commit to supporting them in their journey towards peace, stability, and justice.
Thank you for your unwavering compassion and support in this time of urgent need.
Sincerely,
Kai Htang Lashi
