Urgent Appeal to Support LGBTIQ Community in Sudan
Donation protected
My name is PD Khal, a disabled person and a leader of my community. I am a 27-year-old queer refugee from Uganda, currently seeking safety in Sudan. Alongside me is a large community of fellow LGBTIQ refugees who have escaped unimaginable persecution, only to find ourselves in a war-torn country where survival is a constant struggle. Our situation is critical, and we are in urgent need of help to meet basic needs such as FOOD, SHELTER, MEDICAL CARE, and protection from the violence that continues to threaten our lives.
**The Story of Our Plight**
In Uganda, being LGBTIQ is not just socially condemned—it is life-threatening. We were forced to flee our homes due to the extreme discrimination, threats, and violence against us simply because of who we are. We had hoped to find safety, but here in Sudan, we continue to face severe challenges in a country already devastated by conflict and torn apart by war.
Every day, we live in FEAR—not only because of the ongoing violence in the country but also because our LGBTIQ identities make us targets for further discrimination and harm. The refugee camps where we are currently staying are severely under-resourced, and as a marginalized group, we are often overlooked or rejected when trying to access the limited aid available.
**The Challenges We Face**
- **FOOD AND WATER SHORTAGES**: Resources in the camps are extremely limited. Our community often struggles to secure enough food and clean water to survive. As queer refugees, we face additional discrimination, making it even harder for us to access what little is available.
- **UNSAFE LIVING CONDITIONS**: The shelters we live in are overcrowded, unsafe, and offer little protection from the elements or from those who wish to harm us because of our identity. Many in our community are forced to live in unsanitary and dangerous environments, which put our health and safety at constant risk.
- **LACK OF MEDICAL CARE**: Access to medical care is a major challenge. Many of us have experienced trauma, including physical violence, and we are unable to receive the treatment we need. For those who require gender-affirming care, the situation is even more dire, as such services are either inaccessible or denied.
- **CONSTANT THREATS AND INSECURITY**: Even in the refugee camps, our lives are in danger. The environment is hostile to LGBTIQ people, and we live in constant fear of harassment, attacks, or worse. This makes it incredibly difficult to feel any sense of safety or security.
**Why Your Help Matters**
We are reaching out to you because we cannot survive this alone. The funds raised will directly improve our basic living conditions and ensure we have what we need to stay alive. Specifically, your donations will help provide:
- **FOOD & WATER**: Ensuring that no one in our community suffers from hunger or dehydration.
- **SAFE HOUSING**: Securing safer living spaces that protect us from the harsh environment and the dangers we face in the camps.
- **MEDICAL SUPPORT**: Offering necessary medical treatment, including care for those who have been injured or need specialized services like gender-affirming care.
- **PROTECTION MEASURES**: Implementing ways to enhance our security and safeguard our community from ongoing violence and discrimination.
**How You Can Make a Difference**
By donating to this campaign, you will be doing more than just providing the means for our survival. You will be standing in SOLIDARITY with us, supporting our right to live with DIGNITY, free from persecution, violence, and fear.
Every contribution—no matter how small—can make a significant impact on our lives. With your support, we can overcome the daily challenges we face and find hope for a future where we can live openly and safely.
**Join Us in Our Fight for Survival**
There are many important causes in the world, but we ask you to consider our situation, as it is both urgent and life-threatening. The generosity of people like you can make all the difference in helping us rebuild our lives and find a future free from fear and suffering.
**With deep gratitude,**
