Urgent Care Needed for Dana's Recovery

Deducible

Update: August 9, 2024 at 8:00am.
Dana-Charleigh did really well overnight so the surgery will be performed this morning, starting at 11am. The wonderful surgical staff at NC State Veterinary School has fallen in love with this sweet angel and I am sure they will do whatever it takes to save her life. Please keep her in your thoughts today.

The Great Pyrenees Rescue of Western NC received an urgent message from a soldier's family near Fayetteville, NC on Tuesday night August 6th, 2024 around 10:15pm. Sandi (the rescue's operations manager) responded IMMEDIATELY even though it was so late at night she knew it was an emergency situation. This poor girl had been hit by a car earlier that evening. Here is the story from Brittany, the lady who found her:
Tuesday, August 6th, when I was driving, I saw a Pyrenees girl on the side of the road in a ditch. Thankfully, by the time I was able to turn around, two other amazing women stopped to check on the dog. Laying in about 7 inches of water, in the ditch, was the sweetest, gentle eyed beauty, later to be named Dana. The 3 of us ladies quickly realized something was terribly wrong. She had been hit by a car and left.
Her right, hind leg wasn't not in good shape. It just kind of dangled. On top of the amount of pain she was in, she was freezing and soaking wet. Not to mention, covered in ticks (which, turns out, caused anemia), and severally underweight. I don't know how long she had been laying in the 7 inches of water in that ditch, but it was for quite some time. I knew we had to get her out of the elements with Debby (a tropical storm) already starting slowly showing up. She'd never even have a chance against that storm if she was out there when it hit as that ditch would have gotten much deeper in water. I called Adam Nystrom, my husband, to come and help load her in the care to safety. We brought her home for the night, called the local shelters, and left messages after we settled the sweet girl in, got her warm, and dry. I found the Great Pyrenees Rescue of Western NC's contact info and contacted them as soon as we had her settled at around 10:15 pm. Much to my surprise, I heard from Sandi shortly after sending that message. We quickly made arrangements to help her. The next morning (Weds. August 7th) I took her to URGENT VETS FOR PETS in Southern Pines. X-Rays revealed she broke her leg, her pelvis, possibly had organ damage, and internal injuries. It was decided that it was in her best interest to send her to NC State Vet School in Raleigh, NC, where she currently still is and receiving CRUCIAL care in ICU.
Thank you to Chuck and Janine for providing transport from Southern Pines to NC State in Raleigh.
Great Pyrenees Rescue of Western North Carolina needs major support financially to get Dana the care she needs.
If you're able to please donate. SHARES are just as wonderful!"

She has currently received emergency/LIFE SAVING surgery and they are sedating and stabilizing her today, Thursday August 8th, in preparation for a very complicated surgery to save her leg and pelvis. This is a rapidly developing situation and I will make updates as often as I get them
