Urgent Care Needed for Fire-Affected Horses

The devastating Eaton Canyon, Palisades, and Hurst Fires have displaced so many animals across the city. As LA raised lifelong horse girls, my sister and I are heartbroken to see that many of these animals are severely injured and without a home.

Last night, I got a message from a friend that six horses were stuck in Altadena. After posting on instagram that I was in search of a trailer and with the help of a community of horse lovers, we were able to get them all out.

One three year old mare was in dire condition and immediately taken to Chino Valley Equine Hospital. We have been able to raise enough to cover her current medical expenses but due to the severity of her burns and the amount of smoke she inhaled it’s unclear what future expenses the recovery process will bring.

The other five horses are currently at the city shelter at LAEC. They are in much better shape but still suffering from eye infections and more minor burns. And they are not alone…the shelter is currently housing hundreds of horses along with donkeys, goats, sheep, pigs etc etc from across the city that have been affected by these fires.

We are actively working with the shelter and other volunteers to provide the care these animals desperately need. Right now, we are covering these costs ourselves, but the need is immense, and we cannot do it alone. We’re asking for your help to support as many animals as we can during this critical time. The funds we raise will go directly toward:

Veterinary care and medical supplies for injured horses and other animals

Transport, moving, and boarding costs for horses without homes

Feed and essential supplies to sustain them
