Urgent Cause - Honoring our Dine’ (Navajo) Elders & Navajo Nation Community Members:
Nurturing All Souls
Every day, there is shortage of healthy food, safe drinking water, and in most cases no electricity nor running water they rely on wood burning stoves to keep their homes warm in remote area of reservation communities. Especially, now more than ever with COVID-19 cases raising. Our elder’s needs are EXTREMELY HIGH!! Their shelves are getting empty especially with the cold winter settling in and with the “stay at home” orders. With travel restrictions in place across the Navajo Reservation, which is about 27,000 square miles very often, it is compared to that of the state of West Virginia.
My brother Andy, along with nephews Zack & Shane, Mercury and a team of valuable volunteers have been working since March making critical deliveries as an essential service & a responder to the elder’s request for help! – even with travel restrictions he’s honoring the elders and those who are in need in the very remote location throughout the reservation communities. As a team of very dedicated volunteers who have been responding daily to a high volume of request from community members in need, who are requesting food, drinking water and firewood sometimes to weatherize their homes which are in most cases in dire need of repairs. Some of the most requested essentials needs now are firewood, home repairs, food, cloth face masks, sanitizers, and other essentials to weather the pandemic.
The volunteers are sometime driving over 350 miles a day & working very long hours to ensure vital supplies get to those in dire need on the reservation.
Andy’s only means of transportation which was donated a 1998 Dodge truck took a toll and is not currently running due to mechanical issues. Others have stepped up to help Andy & his group of volunteers and continuing to help deliver food, water and now firewood for winter season. And, of course his volunteers also have families of their own to care for not to mention holding down employment in nearby border towns. So, sometimes Andy is the one gathering what he can until his volunteers are able to help. There are other VERY DEDICATED volunteers’ in the area who are working just as hard in the community, they work hand in hand in communicating with whom is in dire need of help and work collectively to ensure that elders and community members get the help they need.
With so many requests coming this is where WE NEED YOUR HELP to replenish everything … Please consider Donating Today!
Donating is the best way to help our Native communities, our relationship with elder’s portrays our purpose, so please help us raise awareness of the needs on the reservation we are helping serve. With your support you will help us strengthen resources for serving immediate needs for the Navajo elders and members of the communities “Nurturing All Souls”.
If you have never visited a Native reservation, I encourage you to do so in the future when COVID is NO Longer a Threat - it is difficult to understand the actual reality of what the lives of modern native people are like.
The fight must go on; we need more than ever to accomplish in helping get “Water & Food” for the ELDERS! This is where we need HELP and with your help WE CAN Reach out to More remote locations.
