Urgent financial help for Gustavo
Donation protected
I'm putting out an urgent request for help for Gustavo Bustos, my ex-husband, who is still one of my dearest friends.
Gustavo is a professional musician in the San Francisco Bay Area who also drives for Uber/Lyft. He has been really struggling during the pandemic....with music venues closed and people in the Bay Area not commuting to work or going out, work as an Uber/Lyft driver has been very slow.
In March when the pandemic hit the U.S., Gustavo had just returned from a visit home to Argentina. He was supposed to start a new job and move into a new place, but both of those fell through when SF went into lockdown. He has been essentially homeless since March, living in a van on the streets of SF.
Despite being a legal permanent resident of the U.S., Gustavo has not received unemployment or any stimulus/relief funding from the government even though he's entitled to both. He has not had access to a computer (his desktop computer has been in storage at a friends) so he's had big logistical challenges trying to follow up on his unemployment application or to contact the IRS to figure out why his stimulus checks have not arrived.
Gustavo has continued to work as an Uber driver and is working very hard to pay his bills, but work is slow and his earnings are significantly lower than normal. Despite all the hardship, he's been working hard and trying to keep his spirits up.
Then on Sunday, January 17th, Gustavo's car was stolen. Not the van he sleeps in, but the nice Honda he uses when he drives Uber for a living. Without his car, he can't work at all.
Although Gustavo has good car insurance that will pay for the loss of the car and the valuables that were inside the car, he is urgently in need of immediate financial help in the meantime until the insurance claim can be settled. This is a strong, determined, hardworking person who has suffered WAY more than his share of hardship during the pandemic and economic downturn. Not only does he need help with basic living costs and bills -- he needs to know that the world is a still good place and that there are people who care about helping someone in need.
Whether or not you know Gustavo personally, if you are someone who believes that those of us who are still financially stable have a responsibility to help those who were already more vulnerable and have disproportionately suffered the impacts of the pandemic -- this is an opportunity to do that. I humbly and gratefully ask for your support. Even a small donation would go a LONG way toward helping someone who is truly in need.
As a small thank you, please enjoy some of Gustavo's music on YouTube by clicking the link below. These are songs recorded with his most recent band, Comoloco. Gustavo wrote the music and lyrics of all these tracks and he's the lead vocalist.
