Urgent funds for the security of a radical antiracist home.

Hi, We’re a WG (apartment) of 9 BIPoC Trans and Queer people, Germans as well as non-Germans, at the H48 house project in Neukölln, Berlin. Hardships due to structural marginalization have put us in a financial crisis and we need immediate funds to support our rent and monthly bills. We have also received an eviction notice and need funds for a court case.

Time is very crucial, your prompt support is vital and will be deeply appreciated. Folks in the WG are living precariously due to systemic discrimination that has led to lack of money making opportunities or housing. This has led to vulnerable physical and mental health to be able to work and meet basic needs. Some of us also live with chronic physical health and disability. Many are also not eligible to receive any state support.

Most of our financial buffer we assembled has been used up to support housemates who have needed this help. At this moment we’re not able to meet the rent, and our housing is at multi-fold risk. Currently our monthly rent amounts to around Euro 3500, we also need to pay other bills of electricity, internet, etc.

At H48, our unique apartment has been a queer-feminist house for more than a decade and has only had BIPoC people live here in the past few years. This house is also accessible by an elevator and can facilitate people who have such mobility needs. There is a lack of affordable housing in Berlin; and further a lack of housing where people are anti-racist and trans-feminist, and support each other in communal values.

Alongside the funds to sustain the monthly expenses we also need to raise a large sum for a legal suit, your initial urgent support to sustain ourselves will help us fight further.

H48 is an industrial building that has been occupied as residential spaces since the 90s. All WGs in H48 were given an eviction notice to move out by the end of October 2024, by the commercial buyers of the property. Now the fight to continue living here will be taken to court.
