Urgent Help for Amari and His Brave Mom
Donation protected
My name is Chambrè Timia Purnell, and I go by my middle name, Timia. I am a 28-year-old single mother to a 2-year-old son. I am reaching out during an incredibly difficult time in my life, as I have been homeless since March 18, 2024, and I am urgently seeking stable housing, financial assistance, and emotional support for my son and myself.
On July 1, 2023, I was involved in a devastating car accident on my birthday that left me unconscious.
The accident caused severe injuries, including internal bleeding, and required emergency surgery to remove a large portion of my small intestine.
Despite initial treatment, I continued to experience complications. After being released from the hospital, I followed up with my primary care doctor, who discovered that my hand was broken and I had a bowel obstruction. I began experiencing severe weight loss and had difficulty keeping anything down. I was repeatedly hospitalized for small bowel obstructions and had to have an NG tube inserted multiple times.
On February 28, 2024, I had an exploratory laparotomy to remove adhesions from the initial surgery, but things worsened. I continued to have recurrent small bowel obstructions, and in May 2024, I sought care at Georgetown University Hospital There, I underwent another 10-hour surgery on May 29, 2024, to remove more of my damaged small intestine. I now live with a G-tube for decompression and an ostomy bag.
I am still fighting for my life, with ongoing hospitalizations for bowel obstructions, including a case of sepsis caused by an infection from a PICC line. Despite ongoing treatment by the Transplant Team at Georgetown University Hospital, I feel I am not receiving the level of care I need and have been struggling with medical negligence.
Due to my injuries and health challenges, I have had to stop working and rely solely on my limited resources.
Right now, I’m waiting to find out if I’ll need a small bowel transplant. The survival rates for this are pretty low, and I have been told that if I end up going down that route, I might only have 1-3 years to live. It’s been really overwhelming to process, and honestly, I’m still trying to come to terms with it all.
I am doing everything I can to provide for my son and stay strong for him.
My son means the world to me, and I will do anything to ensure that he is well taken care of. It has always been my promise to God that if He blessed me with this child, I would love and care for him unconditionally for the rest of my life—and beyond.
I recently had to unenroll my son from daycare, as the cost became too overwhelming. Daycare had been a crucial part of my ability to attend medical appointments and get much-needed rest.
I am currently in the process of applying for a child care voucher and reaching out for any available resources that can help us get back on our feet.
We are in desperate need of assistance, whether it be financial support, housing resources, or emotional guidance.
If you are aware of any programs or organizations that may offer help, I would be truly grateful for any information or support you can provide.
Thank you so much for taking the time to consider my request. Your kindness and generosity would mean the world to us during this challenging time.
With sincere gratitude

* ‼️UPDATE: As of 3/3/25, I’ve learned that my condition is worsening. After I have a few more procedures done and see a genetics doctor, I’ll need another bowel resection to remove more of the damaged and diseased bowel in the coming weeks. Additionally, I need to find a safe space for myself and my son by May.
I am truly grateful for your support in any form.
