Urgent Help for Joe Harrison to have eye surgery
Donation protected
Most of our family and friends know this story already but I'll begin at the beginning. My husband Joe Harrison (pictured above with his buddy Daphine) got an aggressive eye infection last August. It quickly spread to both eyes and by the time I was able to convince him to go to the hospital (men ... what're you gonna do) the infection was too bad to do much about it. The local eye doctor at Berg Eye Center took one look and left the room. He came back in and told us that he couldn't help but he had contacted a doctor in Atlanta and we needed to go see him right now, the Atlanta doctor was gonna hold the office open late to wait for us.
Enter doctor Joseph Christenbury and his awesome staff and associates. It was determined that the left eye couldn't be saved so another doctor removed it. Since that time Dr Christenbury has done everything in his power to save Joe's right eye. I can't tell you how many times we've been back and forth to Atlanta for them to work on or check on his eye. A corneal transplant was done by Dr Christenbury on February 8th and since then he's had to add stitches twice. Back and forth to Atlanta we've continued to go with the hope that Joe would regain some of his vision. (Thank you family and friends for your financial support already, without you he wouldn't have made it this far.)
Well, yesterday Dr Christenbury let us know for sure that the corneal transplant hasn't taken and will have to be done again. The kicker though is that he wants another doctor to do it. In Miami. Next week. Yup I said next week.
I've spoken with them in Miami. He has an appointment Monday at 8:30 am to see the doctor.
The surgery will be Tuesday and he wants to see him again Wednesday. Depending on how well everything goes he wants him to stay until at least Friday to be checked again. If there's a problem he wants him to stay until Monday.
This place and this doctor are considered the best:
"Bascom Palmer Eye Institute, a University of Miami Hospital and Clinic, is ranked the nation's best in ophthalmology."
We need money for the trip and we need it fast! I've done some adding and it looks like for us to rent a car, pay for gas and go down there to stay for a week in a motel it will probably cost at least $2000 not to mention the fact that I'll miss a week of work. Afterwards he'll have to make continued trips to Atlanta for follow up with Dr Christenbury.
Please help if you can
and please please keep us in your prayers.
