Urgent Help for Layna's Critical Spine Surgery
Donation protected
My name is Brittany and I am the mother of Layna, 16 years old. Layna has been experiencing neck pain for a year and a half. Recently, the pain came to a head. We have been in the hospital at Joe DiMaggio trying to help Layna. So far she has had the diagnosis of a subluxated C2 vertebrae, but the doctors are noticing an anomaly in her spine. Despite trying a closed reduction under anesthesia, the vertebrae wants to slip back to the subluxated position. Therefore, they placed a halo device on her. We are uncertain of the amount of time this device will need to be worn and if it will even work. Ironically two days before our hospital journey began, I met another mother on Facebook that has also been going through this with her daughter. They found a phenomenal doctor in Maryland and had an extensive background in treating cervical spine cases. I was told that he would consult on her case and he has. He is conservative and would not recommend spinal fusion if it was not needed. He is indeed recommending it. When Layna was a baby she had torticollis. We believe that this may have caused her C2 to take a different shape on the right side over time. Essentially she could be predisposed to this injury. There was mild trauma to the area, but nothing that the doctors could pinpoint and confidently say "yes, that is the cause of this injury". Layna loved to play volleyball and can no longer do so due to this injury. We were told that the C2 subluxation could be life or death. Please help us get her to the doctor that has the best chance of helping our daughter. Unfortunately, he does not take insurance and our insurance may or may not cover the hospital stay thereafter. Thank you for your consideration in donating to our cause. I am humble to say this is the only way we can get her to Dr Henderson.
