Urgent Help for Maqueshia Jackson's Family

Donation protected
Hi, my name is Maqueshia Jackson.

I'm reaching out because I need help to keep my home.

Fourteen months ago, my life turned upside down when I separated from my husband. On February 14, 2024, I discovered that he had been gambling and secretly stealing from our home. I trusted him completely — I never imagined he was pawning and selling our belongings or that he was misusing the money I sent for bills to fuel his gambling addiction.

After confronting him and asking him to leave, I uncovered even more. He had maxed out my credit cards and convinced me to take out a title loan on my car under the false pretense that we were behind on bills. In truth, he simply needed more money to gamble. I trusted him, and I didn't double-check the accounts like I should have — a mistake I now painfully regret.

When he left, I realized just how far behind we were. I spent much of 2024 trying to catch up, working 7 days a week, 12-hour shifts, and eventually being promoted to a salaried supervisor position. Despite my best efforts, my take-home pay wasn’t enough to cover everything. I made the difficult choice to let some debts go just to keep the essentials: rent, utilities, phone, and $758/month for the car title loan — because I needed transportation for work.

In November 2024, I lost my job and went through a very difficult time. I finally found a new job in January 2025 and started to catch up, but disaster struck again. In March, due to political decisions that cut funding to the refugee department where I worked, I was laid off along with my entire team. A new CEO later let all temp-to-hire employees go to protect the organization’s finances — and I was one of them.

Today, I'm doing everything I can. I have a new work-from-home job lined up starting May 12, making $21/hour. But right now, I’m facing eviction. I was so focused on keeping my phone and lights on that I fell behind on rent, and I’m now in a desperate situation.

On top of everything, I am trying my very best to provide for my children. Their father has been completely out of the picture — we have not seen or heard from him since February 14, 2024. I have filed for child support, but unfortunately, the authorities have been unable to locate him.

It is very hard for me to ask for help. I've always kept my struggles private, out of fear of rejection. I suffer from depression and anxiety, and asking for help — and the fear of not receiving it — terrifies me.

I wasn’t able to include every single detail here, but I’m more than happy to explain anything further if you have any questions, suggestions, or concerns. Please don't hesitate to reach out.

If you would like to contact me, you can call or text me. Please note that my phone screens calls first, as sometimes speaking is difficult due to my anxiety.

Thank you so much for reading my story and for any help you can offer. I truly appreciate it more than words can express. I am also actively looking for a second job to help make ends meet. If anyone knows of any opportunities or has any connections, I would be truly grateful if you could let me know.
