My name is Melanie Baker on July 19th of 2023 Molina Medicaid stop paying for anything except and in hospital stay for my son David baker. This was a mistake made by The Job and family service case worker. We had to appeal this decision before we could find out why and get it corrected. Before the mistake happened Molina had covered all of his hospital stays and his medications as well as transportation back and forth to dialysis and doctor's appointments as needed. While we were waiting his Medicaid to get it figured out and corrected he had to go to Fresenius Kidney Care for dialysis three times a week as well three trips to Clinton memorial hospital emergency room three times and doctor's office visit. So I was left to pay the cost of transportation which cost $5 per one way making a total of $310 for transportation needs. Luckily we have a cab in Wilmington that will make chips 4 MI out of town where we live. I am disabled and the only income I have is ssdi. So after paying for David's transportation I found myself a month behind on my rent.
By the time the mistake had been corrected in his Medicaid had been reinstated it was the end of August. On September 16th he had an appointment to go to his dialysis at frenzy's and that would be the first day that the insurance would cover his pickup. However in the middle of the night at 1:30 a.m. on September 16th I was woke up to call the squad because the dialysis report had came out at David's chest again. Clinton memorial hospital sent him to Miami valley hospital to have the port replaced because he had infection around the site and they had kept him in the hospital. On the 22nd of September Miami valley hospital called me at midnight to get permission to do a CT scan. Of course I gave permission. The next morning I got another call this time letting me know that they were going to do emergency surgery to try and stop a brain bleed. By the time I finally got to the hospital a little after 1:00 they told me that the surgery did not go well and my son David was not going to make it. Unfortunately at 10:57 on September 23rd my son David passed away.
I had no idea what I needed to do or where to begin but I had talked to Brown's funeral home the day before the CT scan because I had a bad feeling, he was in and out of the hospital several times from 2020 to the present time. I had no choice but to have him cremated due to the expenses. I was able to have a memorial service at the funeral home for him and my sister paid for permission to bury his ashes in the grave with my mother which cost $500 to open and close the grave. There were a few people that helped along the way up for the funeral expenses. However as of right now it's been 3 months and I'm still behind on my rent still devastated over the loss of my son and I still owe the remainder of the funeral expenses. Has David did not have any life insurance or anything in place for his death. At the time he died he was only 42 years old. The total that I owe is less than $1,500 but being disabled I see no way to get it caught up and continue to pay my monthly rent with utilities. I desperately need help.
