Urgent Help for Sara: Struck from 10 Stories Up
Donation protected
On Friday, August 18, Sara was on her way to work in Greenpoint, Brooklyn, New York, when an umbrella fell ten stories from a balcony and struck Sara in the head, causing a concussion and blunt force trauma injuries to her neck and body.
The accident was witnessed by many bystanders, and was entirely out of Sara’s control. Thankfully, she is able to recuperate at home, but unable to work. Her lost wages will be at least $2500. She’s been advised to take legal action, which requires energy, clarity, time, and often money.
Mutual aid to support her during the recovery period will help cover lost income, pay for cat food (hi Callie) and get Sara necessary medical and mental health support so she can remain in a place of physical, emotional and mental stability while getting back on her feet.
Folks who love Sara know that she is one of the most loyal, kind, compassionate, generous and supportive humans around - with the best sense of dry humor. If you don’t know Sara personally, she’s a queer, autistic creative artist who is legally disabled and is the last remaining member of her blood kin. Her family now is US: her friend and artist communities, her fur daughter Callie, and the wider kin of Mother Earth. While she’s maintaining a great attitude, this injury, physical trauma and forced time off work is causing great strain, distress and impairment during a time that she is giving her all towards a rebuilt life.
Sara is a brilliant poet and creative writer, previous junior Olympian martial artist and incredibly talented Butoh performance artist. This accident will have a direct impact on her ability to practice movement and creative expression for a time, two things that greatly support her mental health.
2022 and winter 2023 brought several personal crises, deep grief and a period of mental health and housing instability for Sara. She has worked incredibly hard to destabilize her life in the past 6 months, and an outpouring of love in the form of financial support will help sustain her and keep the wind in her sails to keep going, and keep living.
Let’s do that for her. Let’s fill her world with loved safety, and stability, and weave a web of care that can hold her through this challenging time.

*For those reading, my name is Amelia Travis. I'm a friend and peer of Sara's, and I'm creating this GoFundMe as she is unable to think clearly and will need many days of deep rest to recover from this accident. Please feel welcome to send her direct messages of support and encouragement, but refrain from overloading her with requests for information as her rest is vital for her healing. Thank you!
