Evacuation fees and treating my mother from Cancer
Donation protected
Greetings, Supporters, Community, and Friends:
Help Yousef and his family evacuate Gaza, treat his mother and pursue their dreams.
Hello, my name is Yousef AbuGhali. I am a 23-year-old recent graduate in Computer Systems Engineering from Al-Azhar University. I proudly completed my degree in June 2023, but my joy was shortlived. My university, like much of Gaza, has been destroyed. My home in Northern Gaza is gone, and life here is now a daily struggle for survival.
We have no stable access to food, clean water, or electricity. Medical care is a distant dream—especially for my mother, who is suffering from cancer. She is supposed to be in Egypt for her treatment in January 2024. Every day, we witness death and destruction all around us. My family and I are exposed to constant airstrikes and artillery shelling, with buildings and homes collapsing on their residents. We live in constant fear that we could be next.
Our home, with 16 years of memories, is gone. We've been displaced eleven times and encircled by military soldiers four times. Recently, I lost one of my closest friends because of aggression. This loss weighs heavily on me.
I have dreams, but here in Gaza, the possibility of a future feels distant. I want to leave this war-torn place with my family—my dad, mom, and little sister—when the borders open again. My ultimate goal is to get my family to Egypt to get the medical care needed for my mother and save my family from certain death, pursue a master’s degree in administration, and help rebuild my life, my family's, and my community's future through education.
My mother Asmaa has been suffering from cancer since December 2021; she had two surgeries, and she is supposed to be in Egypt in January 2024 for her atomic diagnosis with radioactive iodine and her treatment as well.
My little Nour, who is 16 years old, loves reading and riding horses; she is dreaming to become a lawyer in the future.
Right now, I need your help to make this future possible, not just for me but for my family as well. I am raising funds to evacuate all of us from Gaza and begin a new life in safety. This includes securing resources for safe passage for me, my parents, and my sister, basic necessities, and eventually furthering my education abroad.
- The crossing from Gaza to Egypt costs $5,000 USD per person over 16, according to the Yahala Company.
- A total of $1,500 USD per person is needed for the plane ticket to Canada, housing, and basic food needs.
- An additional $2,200 USD is required to cover GoFundMe fees (2.9% + $0.30 per donation) and ACH wire transfer fees (1.75%).
My family and I need your support to evacuate, treat my mother and build a new life. Your contribution, no matter how small, can help secure safe passage for all of us. Without your help, a better future for my mother’s treatment and to fulfill our dreams feels impossible.
Thank you for taking the time to read our story. Please consider contributing to our campaign. Together, we can turn these dreams into a reality.
With gratitude,
Yousef AbuGhali and Family
