Urgent Help For Zephyr and Sara

Dear Community,

I need help. It is the last thing I want to do, but my efforts to manage the situation on my own have not been working. The truth is, I am in a bad spot and have been for quite some time.

As always, Zephyr is my number one concern. My cat, best friend, lifesaver Zephyr needs his teeth cleaned. There will be potential extractions as well. Given his age (17) and that he is currently in good health, my vet and I agreed that now would be a good time. The estimate provided by my vet gave a potential cost up to $1,650.64. With $2,000.00 I'll be able to cover the high end and any unforeseen extras that may arise.

Now a bit about my situation (which affects Zephyr as well, of course). As some of you know I got divorced from an abusive man just as the pandemic arrived on the scene in 2020. This was both a godsend and an extreme trauma as I navigated everything, from dealing with the emotional fallout to finding housing and moving house, all by myself. At that time I was extremely grateful to be receiving alimony, despite having to beg for it twice a month. Fast forward to now. My ex-husband passed away suddenly in November 2022. He did not take the steps outlined in our divorce agreement to ensure I received the remainder of my alimony payments, so I got nothing after October.

As of now, my parents have provided support, but they are in their mid-70s and are retired school teachers, so their resources are limited. For my part, I applied for disability in March, but the process takes several months and has no guarantees. I am receiving food benefits and Medicaid, thankfully.

In addition to the PTSD and other mental health issues I am trying to heal from, I didn't work for the entirety of my 15 year relationship with the aforementioned person, so I have practically zero work experience. Despite this, I have been trying to get a part time job and am attempting to work with my local vocational center. So far I have not been successful.

I am also losing my housing. As of right now, I have nowhere to live after July 26, 2023. I am not able to renew my lease where I am currently as I cannot afford the $1,750.00 a month rent. I have been trying to work on getting housing assistance and it's not going well. I am hopeful that things will come together somehow and I will be able to stay near where I am in Colorado - where Zephyr's veterinarian as well as my support team of doctors, my therapist, and disability consultant are located.

It's hard to put a number towards the amount of help I need urgently.

A rough estimate would be $10,000 to $12,000. I know it's a lot. I hope you understand the dire situation Zephyr and I are in, and the desperation that is driving me to reach out for help. I am not doing this lightly. This would give us a tiny bit of stability in all the chaos as I continue to work towards my goal of self-sufficiency.
