Please read this as if I were a member of your family - perhaps your brother, sister, son, daughter, or one of your friends.
My name is Youssef Abu Zaid. I'm 22 years old, from southern Gaza, Rafah. Let me share the story of my family. My family consists of me, my father, my mother, my brother Eyad, my brother Mohamed, my sister Rimas, my sister Lama, and my sister Rahaf, who was martyred before we were displaced from Rafah.
On May 4, 2024, we received news of an attack on Rafah, so we fled to western Rafah. Two days after our displacement, the bombing began in that area. We then moved to Al-Mawasi in Khan Younis and later to the northern part of Khan Younis. Even now, the bombing continues. The military is targeting both safe and unsafe areas nearby. We suffer from the constant sounds of explosions and clashes, day and night. When I or a family member gets sick, there's no medicine or treatment available. My family and i suffer from skin allergies and toothaches due to lack of hygiene supplies. My mother suffers from chronic illnesses such as high blood pressure and diabetes, for which there is no treatment, and my father has the same conditions.
We are now facing another hardship during the winter: the rain has caused our dilapidated tents to flood. Life in the tents is extremely difficult.
In this situation, we lack the most basic necessities: shelter to protect us from the natural elements, food to nourish us, and clean water to quench our thirst. There's no stable income, no work to rely on, and nothing we can call our own in these temporary shelters. The world around us has truly shrunk, reducing life to a constant struggle for survival under these dire conditions.
Thank you for your patience in reading my story and for your support in advance. Best regards.
