Goal achieved! Bills paid off and Mayo survived!

Updated: Hello everyone, I wanted to take a moment to thank you all from the bottom of my heart for helping us reach our $20,000 donation goal for Mayo’s treatment. I am in tears how much love and support we received from the community and people even from interstate and overseas. It’s truly amazing and I can’t thank you enough for coming together to save my family, Mayo. I’ll keep the donation open for further updates and support as Mayo is still working with the machine and receiving intensive care. If you are able to contribute further, it would mean the world to us and help us getting enough care for Mayo until he is ready to come home.
Mayo has made significant progress over the past week—On Day 2, it took him more than 12 hours to be able to blink; On Day 4, he could shake his toes, tail, and ears with minimal chest movement; on Day 6, he could wake up quicker while able to show small movements around his head and body; On Day 8, he could breathe with the support of ventilator using tummy muscles, while chest muscles are getting stronger. And till yesterday, he is much more responsive, able to move his legs and head, and even initiated breaths and could breathe without ventilation for short periods. The doctors are optimistic, and we’re hopeful he’ll be able to detube and fully breathe on his own soon.
As an international student, I have only met my parents 2 times over the past 5 years, I spend the majority of time with my cats at home and they are my only family here in Australia. As Mayo is reaching the end of his treatment, I hope that we can support him to see him get a full recovery. Thank you again for being part of this journey with us. We are so grateful for each and every one of you.
With deepest appreciation,
Josette
Initial post:
Dear friends, family, and kind-hearted strangers,
I'm reaching out with a heavy heart and a desperate plea for help. My beloved boy Mr Mayonnaise has been struck by a deadly paralysis tick, and he is currently in critical condition. The bite has caused severe paralysis, and he is unable to breathe on his own. He almost passed away on the ambulance but he is rather stable now.
He’s been placed on a ventilator and is fighting for his life. The medical costs are overwhelming, with the ventilator and intensive care costing $7,000 per day. I have already used up all my savings in the first 5 days he is hospitalized, and managed to secure a loan to cover some of the expenses as he might need another 5 days on the machine, I’m still in desperate need of more financial support to continue his treatment.
The good news is that the vet has told me that Mayo has an 80% chance of a full recovery if he can get the proper care in the coming days. The paralysis is temporary, but he needs the ventilator and constant support to give him the best chance of survival. I truly believe he can pull through, but without the necessary funds, his chances are quickly slipping away. My heart is shattered watching him struggle, and every day feels like an eternity. I can’t imagine life without him, and I’m doing everything I can to save him, but I simply can’t do it alone. If you can find it in your heart to help, even the smallest contribution would make a world of difference. Every dollar brings us one step closer to seeing him healthy and back home with me. Please, if you can, share this page and help spread the word. Thank you so much for your support, love, and compassion. I deeply regret not having his ticks up-to-date, but I will try my best to save him. Mr Mayo and I will be forever grateful.
With sincere gratitude, Josette
