Urgent Help Needed for Damien’s Medical Transport and Care
Donation protected
Dear friends and family,
Our beloved Damien—known to many as Damo, Duno, or Mr. Damien—is a devoted husband, father, son, brother, uncle, grandson and friend. Today, he needs your help.
On Friday, August 30th, Damien suffered a severe stroke, which has left the right side of his body paralysed. He was rushed to the ICU at the Siloam Hospital in Bali, where he developed a serious case of pneumonia. His medical team has been working tirelessly to clear his lungs of mucus and fluid. Additionally, Damien underwent a tracheostomy and is currently on a ventilator to assist his breathing. Unfortunately, due to complications from medication, his kidneys were damaged, and he has had to undergo three rounds of haemodialysis so far. Damien remains sedated and will continue to be until he can breathe unaided.
Since his stroke, Damien has been battling constant fevers. Today, we were informed that he has developed a urinary tract infection (UTI), and a large lump has appeared on the back of his head. Doctors believe this may be an infected follicle or sebaceous cyst, which adds to the complexity of his condition.
The good news is that Damien has been medically cleared by the hospital to fly by air ambulance back to Japan, where he can receive further treatment and rehabilitation. However, we are waiting for the insurance company to authorise the flight. The total cost of the medical evacuation is approximately AUD $160,000, but his insurance will only cover $100,000. We are urgently seeking your help to raise the remaining $60,000 to cover the gap.
Time is of the essence, as we also hope to bring Damien home before reaching the $100,000 limit on his current medical expenses, which have already reached $65,000 in just two and a half weeks.
His wife Yukiko, children Sara, Kai, and Hiro, our parents, and I have been by his side, reading all of your kind messages of support. Your words have brought us comfort during this incredibly difficult time. We have also had amazing support here in Bali from Murray and Vie which we are so grateful for.
Those who know Damien understand the size of his heart and how he has always been there for others in their time of need. Now, it’s our turn to give back to him and his family as they face these overwhelming challenges.
Please, if you can donate, no matter the amount, your contribution will help bring Damien home safely and ensure he gets the care he desperately needs.
Thank you for your generosity and support.
