Urgent: Help The Norton Family Get Our Home Back

My name's not Luigi. It's Moses, but I'm also dealing with insurance issues. In early July 2024, Hurricane Beryl swept through Southern Texas. The storm left millions without power, stranded without gas, stuck with damaged properties, and some even tragically lost their lives. Our own home was affected.

My wife Blythe and my two boys, Kal (9 yrs) and Nolan (7 yrs), have been living in what remains of our house for the past nearly six months. Dealing with insurance and adjusters has been difficult. We paid out our $7k deductible and our insurance offered us $5k. Past that, it's been a total stalemate. Unfortunately, that won't cover anything past demolition, which was done back in July. This means we have a plastic divider in the middle of our living room, demolished walls in our master bedroom and those around our chimney, a damaged ceiling in our front restroom, and a hole in the roof where debris initially hit during the hurricane. All of this happened to us in addition to my wife going through a major surgery bringing in its own bills.

With winter coming, attempts to heat the house seeming futile, talks opening up for appraisals that will run through to springtime, and continued difficulty cooperating with insurance, we've inquired with our contractor to see how much it would cost just to seal up the roof and the walls at the very least so the house can be temperature controlled. We felt it the other night with temps dropping to the 30s.

He quoted us at $10k.

My wife and I both work from home and will be scrambling to figure out, freelance and otherwise, how we can come up with this money.
