Urgent Medical Aid for Peradeniya Hospital

The Peradeniya Hospital needs your urgent support.

The University Teaching Hospital Peradeniya (UTHP) is the teaching hospital of the Faculty of Medicine at Peradeniya, the second oldest medical school in Sri Lanka. UTHP is a 1200 bed tertiary care hospital with 12 operating theatres and 3 ICUs, 3 High Dependency Units, and a Maternity and Neonatology Unit.

The UTHP has a busy maternity service, with about 700-800 deliveries a month. Of this number, nearly 400 deliveries are by cesarean section. Unfortunately, a very high percentage of maternity patients are “high-risk” mothers, many needing critical care in the ICU. Additionally, advanced services such as transplant surgery (liver and kidney), dialysis, plasma exchange, and major maxillofacial reconstructions are all offered free of charge to patients.

Sadly, the Peradeniya Hospital is facing a severe shortage of essential medicine due to the ongoing severe financial crisis in Sri Lanka. As a result, critically-ill patients cannot receive these necessary life-saving medications.
