SLMDA UK emergency health aid programme in collaboration with the professional medical colleges in Sri Lanka – Action plan
• SLMDA UK has set out to collect funds to help provide emergency medical supplies to Sri Lanka, with the assistance of the professional colleges in Sri Lanka, namely College of Anaesthesiologist, Sri Lanka College of Paediatricians, Sri Lanka College of Obstetricians & Gynaecologists, Sri Lanka College of Psychiatrists and Ceylon College of Physicians etc.
• We have commenced collecting funds from individuals and organizations specifically for this task
• We have decided we will procure a priority list of medications that is provided to us by combined group of colleges
• Combined colleges inform us supplier details and they send us the invoices so we procure the medicines directly from the suppliers.
• We were informed that colleges will use Medical Supplies Department (MSD) facilities to distribute these medications to relevant hospitals, as certain medications require maintenance of the cold chain etc.
Please note following facts with regards to this programme
• Above action plan was discussed and approved at our AGM held on the 1st of May 2022
• We depend on our colleagues from the professional colleges in Sri Lanka to scrutinize the medicinal shortages and prioritize the list of medications. They would work out the procuring details of the local and regional suppliers. The necessary payments for the medicines will then be made by the SLMDA UK.
• SLMDA UK has no authority or way of overseeing/appraising the procedure of distribution of those medicines in Sri Lanka.
• SLMDA will endeavour to provide progress reports on the medical donations undertaken, on the SLMDA website and individual acknowledgments would not be possible. However, if anyone needs further clarification, please contact SLMDA UK committee.
• We at SLMDA UK are extremely grateful for all the donors and the supporters of this venture
