We as the Sudan Liaison Group  Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologist, are pleading an urgent appeal for the Maternity Hospital Omdurman Sudan
The  hospital is the biggest hospital in Khartoum Sudan serving women from all over the country. With over 3000 deliveries a month the pressure is on.

Many of you may be aware of the Economic crisis in Sudan at the moment with the COVID 19 Pandemic the situation has got so much more difficult .

Most of the local hospitals closed as they were unable to safely support or function under the pandemic . This has increased the pressure on the maternity hospital in support the  women and neonates .

Currently the theatres for operating are barely functioning with only a few machine to support all the operations . The machines are not safely functioning with anaesthetic doctors declining to use them to avoid a maternal death

The PPE availability to staff is sparse which means many doctors will go off sick and staff numbers are reduced on the ground

Women are waiting for days to receive care

Staff are working unsafe hours to make sure there is care provided with over 24 to 36 hour shifts

Medicines are sparse and there is difficulty in storing the medication required hence their validity becomes poor

Patients have no appropriate waiting area and in the middle of the summer they are waiting in the heat

Neonates are being nursed two per cot as minimum  and neonatal death rates have increased

We as the Sudan Liaison Group have started an international appeal.

There have been individuals initiatives to helping Omdurman Sudan and they  have been supportive ,

But as the Sudan Liaison Group team we need your help and support via donations and raising awareness of this appeal

Please help with what you can , every donation will go very far , help us achieve our goal in improving the care to these women and saving their lives

Thank you
