Urgent Relief for my Beloved Sister's Mold Disaster

Hi,

My name is Olivia Pendergast and I am fundraising for my sweet, sweet sister, Heidi. She is my best friend and is in trouble. Due to a devastating and extreme mold contamination in her home, her and her partner have lost everything including their clothes, furniture, books and even the stability of their health. I am helping her as much as I can but can't get her to a stable place on my own.

If you can send a $10-$100 (or more!) I would be so, so grateful for your help.

We just need to raise enough money so that I can help her and her partner find safe, temporary housing for 2-3 months so her body can start to heal. They need a break so they can rest while they file an insurance claim on the house and on items that were ruined by the mold infestation. (They are currently living out of boxes in the back of the car.)

I'm also hoping to raise enough for healthy food and supplements, (to help with the mycotoxin detox process), and some basic linens and clothing items as all their belongings were a total loss.

(Currently neither her or her partner are able to work due to mold exposure and the health implications of it.)

She wrote this letter that I have attached below, to her community, to ask for help. But, I think a GOFUNDME fundraiser is the way forward so that friends and family, that only have a small amount, can contribute. Please know even a small contribution will be greatly appreciated!

"SOS ATHENS FRIENDS,

This is a pretty vulnerable post and difficult to just share openly on my fb page.

My partner and I are in urgent need of housing. Yesterday we moved out of our home, leaving almost everything behind and are not sure when or if we will be returning. This has been a nightmare.... For several months we have been struggling with a mold issue in the basement and then, one afternoon, about 3 weeks ago our entire upstairs living space became completely and irreversibly inundated with mold.

Since then we have been completely exhausted, weak, experiencing neurological effects: mental confusion, brain fog and worsening depression and apathy. I am having respiratory issues like asthma wheezing and shortness of breath. We feel like we are both in an ongoing stupor. It feels surreal and although we are currently out of the house, we are still reeling. Two days ago we were welcomed into a lovely wooded location and it felt perfect as a temporary place to plan our next move, however, I'm afraid this isn’t going to work as I am starting to have breathing issues here as well. In all it's perfectness it is not right for us. This bumps the urgency up on our request to find housing. We both feel a bit paralyzed as to how to navigate.

I am fearful that because we didn't reach out sooner, we have severely compromised our health and state of mind. I am also afraid that what I'm asking for is unreasonable and impossible, but the circumstances and my heart demand I ask.

We are not financially in a position to pay rent at this moment and feel we need support housing for at least 2-3 months, if not longer, until something can be decided and happen with our house. The mold inspector comes out Friday or Monday. As of right now, what is certain about the house is that almost everything in it will go to the landfill. So far, we have thrown away all our clothing, shoes, books, furniture, bed linens, pillows etc.
