Help for Yaya's Family After Tropical Storm Debby

Dear Friends, Family, and Kind Strangers,

I’m reaching out to desperately ask for your help for my childhood friend, Yajaira "Yaya" Contreras, and her family. They lost their home and all possessions in Sarasota, FL, due to the devastating effects of Tropical Storm Debby. Yaya’s family, including her husband Pablo, four children (Bianca, 15 years old; David, 13 years old; Andres, 8 years old; and Anthony, 7 years old), as well as her in-laws and pets, had to make a hurried escape on August 5th, leaving behind all their belongings. They are now staying with her sister-in-law’s family, but the space is incredibly cramped for such a large group.

Unfortunately, Yaya does not have renter’s insurance, leaving her family with no financial assistance to recover from this catastrophe. They are currently without a home and are significantly impacted by these events.

I have known Yaya since I was 10 years old, and in all these years, she has been the kindest, most loving, and caring person you could ever meet. She has always been there for others, offering support and love without hesitation.

Yaya is an independent, hardworking woman who would never ask for help herself. That’s why I am reaching out on her behalf. I have set up this GoFundMe campaign to collect donations that will go directly towards securing temporary housing for Yaya’s family and their beloved pets.

Note: While Florida does offer state assistance and relief for families impacted by these catastrophe, the volume of affected families has led to delays in receiving aid. Any donations will go directly to Yaya's family during this waiting period, as state resources may take time to reach everyone in need
