Black Trans Woman Needs Stability and Safety!

Melanie Manolito is 27 years old, born in Alabama, and has been a resident of Los Angeles for almost two years. As a Black Trans Woman, she is faced with a multitude of violences that make safety and stability inaccessible. For the past 5 years, Melanie has been living on the street and in shelters; vulnerable social circumstances which have resulted in her sexual assault and rape. Melanie worries that the longer it takes for her to secure housing, the more harm she will face. As many news sources have reported, COVID has exacerbated violence against women. Those in positions of power are using this pandemic to exploit the most marginal among us. As the relentless attack on Black trans women pervades, a stable place for Melanie to call home is her top priority, and it should be yours too!


Melanie is one of the most compassionate and kind-hearted people I’ve ever met, and she has envisioned a future for herself that is dedicated to supporting those who are in dire need of help. She is an advocate for Black and Brown Trans lives and she’s working on completing her schooling to become a nurse practitioner. As opposed to “avenging the life of a Black person killed by the police,” ask yourself “what action have I taken this month to improve the life of a Black person?” “Do you care as much about Black people who are alive as those who are unjustly killed?” It is up to us to carve out a world where Black trans women are protected and uplifted, and that work starts right now, with a donation towards Melanie’s safety. Melanie deserves our support!

The funds will be allocated to provide Melanie (in order of priority):

-Secure Housing in Los Angeles (Rent, Security Deposit, utilities, furniture, maintenance, etc. )
-Pay off Debt (Medical, Credit)
-Transportation (Car, Insurance, etc)
-School Supplies (Books, Uniform, etc.)
