Ewere Pearl (23) is a brilliant, driven young woman who recently earned a prestigious Korea Scholarship to study in South Korea. She moved across the world to pursue her dreams in biological sciences, hoping for a fresh start. But today, she is fighting for her life in a foreign country, thousands of miles away from her family.
Tragically, Ewere has just been diagnosed with a rapidly recurring brain tumor (Anaplastic Ependymoma). Unimaginably, this will be her second major brain surgery in the space of just 9 months.
She bravely endured her first grueling operation earlier this year in Nigeria. But before her brain could even fully heal, the tumor aggressively returned. The swelling is now causing severe intracranial pressure and agonizing nerve pain. She is currently bedridden in her university dormitory in South Korea, unable to walk, barely able to speak, and physically incapable of surviving the cabin pressure of a medical flight back home.
There is only one path forward. Her primary neurosurgical team in Nigeria has advised that she remain in South Korea for this procedure. The aggressive nature of this recurrence requires advanced intraoperative neuro-navigation and maximal resection techniques that are simply not available in our home country.
Furthermore, because our family would have to pay entirely out-of-pocket for brain surgery in Nigeria anyway, the costs are virtually identical. South Korea’s advanced medical infrastructure is not just the best option—it is her only chance at survival. A world-renowned neurosurgery team at Seoul St. Mary's Hospital is currently evaluating her case for a life-saving, emergency surgery this November.
Because Ewere is still in her first few months as an international student, she is legally locked out of the South Korean National Health Insurance (NHIS) system. To officially secure her surgery date and be admitted, the hospital requires an upfront, uninsured surgical deposit of 30 million South Korean Won (approximately $21,500 USD).
Her family has exhausted every single resource fighting this cancer the first time around. This massive amount is completely insurmountable for a young student and her family, especially with a deadline only days away.
Complex brain surgery in Korea costs tens of millions of won and can exceed 100 million won (roughly US$70,000). The exact surgical plan and final cost are still being confirmed with the hospital, and we will update this page as soon as we know.
We are raising US$33,100 (about ₦45,000,000) as a first step toward:
1. The hospital deposit and surgery costs
2. Medication and follow-up care
3. A family caregiver’s visa and travel
4. Platform transaction fees
We cannot let her lose her life simply because her insurance hasn't kicked in yet. Please, if you can spare anything—$10, $50, or $100—you are directly buying her a chance to survive this nightmare.
If you cannot donate today, please share this link with your networks, your churches, and your communities. Thank you for your kindness, your prayers, and your generosity. Let's give Ewere the chance to finally heal.
