Hi, my name is Jade and I am reaching out for support as I navigate a difficult and painful chapter in my life. This is going to be a long story, so bear with me.

A few days ago I was faced with the reality that if I wanted to keep living, I needed to leave my home and my family. For years, I have been living with my mother’s transphobia, verbal abuse, and constant ridicule - in an apartment where I paid the majority of the rent, mind you. I held on to the hope that we all do for a time: that maybe she’d come around and the constant berating would turn into a normal loving relationship. Unfortunately, it just kept getting worse and I found myself confined to my room - the only semi safe space. She effectively turned my family against me and (seemingly on purpose) made every day a living hell to try and get me to leave. Finally, after screaming at me to get out, shoving me, threatening to get my brother to beat me, and saying things no one should say to another person, let alone a mother to their child, I had no choice but to leave.

If you know me or even just follow me, you know I have a boyfriend who lives across the country (extremely trans, I know). If it were any other time in my life, I would be able to drop everything and live with him in Michigan. However, I have been working for over a year now to get gender affirming surgery and am finally on track to do so by the end of next year. That goal all hinges on insurance and me staying in California, going to appointments, consultations, etc. so I can’t leave the state. He is supporting me as much as he can, but I am not the only loved one he is supporting financially and it can only go so far.

If I could have it my way, I wouldn’t be in this position. But abruptly being forced out of my home has left me without a stable place to live and no immediate safety net. I’m now trying to pick up the pieces of my life and eventually finding a space where I can finally be safe, supported, and authentically myself. However, starting over comes with significant financial challenges.

I’m humbly asking for help to cover for hotel and living expenses as well as the costs that come with moving whenever I find housing. Any contribution, no matter how small, would mean the world to me and bring me closer to feeling safe and secure again.
