In Loving Memory of David Christopher Maland by the Maland Family
We are deeply saddened to share the tragic loss of David Christopher “Chris” Maland, a devoted U.S. Border Patrol Agent, who was killed by gunfire during a traffic stop on Interstate 91 between Newport and Orleans, Vermont, near the Vermont-Canadian border, on Monday, January 20.
David was a man of courage, honor, and unwavering dedication. Serving as a Border Patrol Agent, he carried immense pride in his work, always embodying the principle of service over self.
A Minnesota native, David grew up in Blue Earth and Fairmont, where he developed a deep love for family, the outdoors, and his beloved K9 partner, Cora. He was deeply cherished by his parents, brother, nephews, niece, fiancée, extended family, and countless friends.
David’s career was a testament to his commitment to protecting and serving others. He spent 9 years in the United States Air Force and 15 years in federal service. While working in Washington, D.C., he provided security for the State Department and the Pentagon during the 9/11 attacks. As a K9 Officer and member of the Mobile Rescue Team, he faithfully served on both the Texas and Canadian borders, earning the respect and admiration of colleagues and the communities he served.
The Maland family is profoundly grateful for the outpouring of love and support from friends, family, community members, and the extended Border Patrol and law enforcement families. Your kindness and prayers are a source of strength during this unimaginable time.
We humbly ask for your support to help David’s family cover expenses not covered by the government as they navigate this devastating loss. Any additional funds will support the family and charities helping them.
David’s fiancé Rosanne shared, “It is with a heavy heart that we announce the passing of my beloved, whose immense heart, extraordinary charisma, and unwavering integrity touched everyone who knew him. He was not only my soulmate but also my best friend”.
David’s legacy is one of service, love, and sacrifice. In his honor, please hug your loved ones today and hold them close.
Thank you for your generosity, prayers, and compassion. Together, we can celebrate David’s life and ensure his memory lives on.
