Help Margaret to live out her best life ❤️️

We at Animal Comfort Care Centre provide hospice care for pets who are a bit older and/or who have high medical needs.

Introducing, our very first hospice care patient, Margaret. A 10y 7m old Female Great Dane cross (maybe!) who was abandoned at a shelter in NSW.

Margaret is still quite engaged both with humans and pets alike, but she has had a number of health concerns, many of which are ongoing treatments.

Margaret has poor use of her back legs, and when she is walking, is very unsteady. Often her legs will give out under her or she'll pull herself along the floor with her front legs only. We suspect that she is suffering from some arthritis which has led to muscle deterioration.

For this, we will be commencing Margaret on the following treatment plan:

1) Help 'em up harness

2) Booties

3) Antinol (joint support)

4) Anti-inflammatory medication

5) Joint support / mobility diet

6) Pain medication

7) Hydrotherapy

8) Massage

9) CT scan to see if her cancer has spread or there are any underlying issues that may interfere with her arthritis management

Margaret also has many bumps and lumps. We know that Margaret recently had a mammary cancer removed, and as far as we know, she doesn't have any other cancer present. However, we need to complete a full CT scan to show us what's happening internally.

We will also have any lumps removed that can be done so with minimal invasion, and focus on those that she is at risk of knocking and causing bleeding.

We may be required to adjust the medication for Margaret as we progress through her treatment, and possibly need to provide injections to support lubrication of her joints.

It's going to be a period of trial and adjustment, but we are very confident that we can provide additional quality of life support for Margaret for whatever time she has left with us in hospice care (we're thinking she could be around for a while!!).

Of course, all of these expenses add up, and even with our own in-house vet providing voluntary treatment, there are some hard costs that we need to manage for her CT scan, medications, hydrotherapy and mobility equipment. We expect that will add up to $6,900 over the next 3 months, at which point we'd hope she has stabilised and her ongoing treatment plan costs are much more reasonable, at around $600 per month.
