US1 Billboard: Make The U Great Again
Enough is enough.
The goal of this campaign is to raise enough funds for a billboard on US1, close to the University of Miami campus, protesting and/or mocking the athletic department and administration in light of this sad state of affairs.
After over a decade of false starts and false hopes, it's clear that the University of Miami administration has no interest in returning The U to national prominence. They are unashamedly complacent and comfortable with just getting by, and the results were on clear display at Marlin's Park. Forget a national power, forget a State power, the Miami Hurricanes are no longer even the best team in Miami Dade.
If the administration is unwilling to make the serious changes such an unbelievable event requires, then they need to be shaken out of their comatose. This problem goes all the way up to those who are never in the public spotlight, and are thus insulated from public pressure and embarrassment. Protesting and firing Diaz isn't the answer, as the guy who poached a 0 experience coach from Temple with no other interviews after receiving a golden parachute from the classy Mark Richt would just get to pick his successor. Blake James must be removed, and the entire administration put on notice by the community of this city that no longer recognizes the team being put on the field every single Saturday.
Language and design of the billboard is to be decided, but it will squarely target the athletic department, administration, and school as a whole rather than any one individual person. Updates will be made on this page as that is decided, as well as updates to the fundraising target as more exact prices are scoped out and negotiated depending on timing, location, etc.
