USA Deaf Wrestling World Championships 2023

Ashten Johnson is on a mission to bring home two golds at the USA Deaf Wrestling World Championships 2023. Ashten Johnson is a remarkable Deaf wrestler who has already made a name for himself as a successful athlete, winning the Bronze medal for Greco-Roman Wrestling at the 2022 Deaflympics in Caxias do Sul, Brazil. Now, he's gearing up to compete against the world's best wrestlers in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan, and make history as a Deaf athlete, representing the USA Deaf Sports Federation (USADSF) as a USA Sports Registered player. However, he needs our support to cover his fees for the competition, including his flights and accommodation. Your support will help Ashten achieve his dreams and make history in the world of Deaf Wrestling.

Background:

Ashten has been wrestling since he was just 5 years old, with his younger brother Demeteris Johnson training alongside him, and his father, Larrick Johnson, coaching them both. As a Deaf athlete in a hearing world, Ashten has faced unique challenges that require a different kind of focus and determination. Unlike most wrestlers who go into a match hearing the sounds of the coach directing what to do next, teammates, opponents, and the loud surroundings of the crowds, Ashten is led by himself, visual surroundings, signs he may catch from the coach, and the countless hours of training that have shown his pure motivation and drive for the love of wrestling. He has proven time and time again that he's up for the challenge, winning over 100 matches and three State qualifications during his high school career alone. He has pushed barriers time and time again, each time pushing the barriers a little further. Showing to be a pure role model for Deaf children, showing that you too can, with motivation and drive, push the limits.

Currently:

Ashten is the captain of Deaf Senior Greco-Roman & Freestyle Wrestling, Deaf Senior Women Freestyle Wrestling, and Deaf Cadet and Junior Greco-Roman Freestyle Wrestling. He's a true leader on and off the mat, inspiring his teammates and breaking down barriers for Deaf athletes everywhere.

Goal:

Our goal is to raise $5000 to cover Ashten's fees for the USA Deaf Wrestling World Championships 2023. Any additional funds raised will go towards supporting Ashten's journey to the Tokyo Japan Deaf Olympics 2025, where he hopes to win two Gold medals, as well as interpreter fees, team, and coach fees.

Travel Dates:

Ashten and the team will be leaving on August 28th and returning on September 12th.
