USA Junior Worlds Pair-LGRC

After this year’s Youth National Championship, two members of the silver medal Men’s Youth 4x (Jonas Thieme and Alberto Lasso) raced trials for the opportunity to represent America at the Junior World Championships!

Although Jonas and Alberto primarily sculled all year, they proved to be a great pair, prevailing over a Saugutuck/Maritime composite crew and another crew from PNRA/Mercer by utilizing an aggressive start to push out to about 8 seconds up on the field at the 1000m mark. Luckily the boys were able to defend their lead from a strong move by Saugutuck/Maritime in the final stages of the race punching their bow across the line first!

The trip to Varese will not be cheap for Juniors Alberto Lasso and Jonas Thieme. We are trying to fundraise for airfare, lodging, entry fees, and training while in Rome before joining the rest of the junior team in Milan!

Alberto and Jonas (& their coach, Channing) want to thank the LGRC community, in particular the Mens Squad, Kieran, Rick, TJ, Jaime, Matt P, Matt K, Ian, and the rest of the LGRC coaching staff for helping the boys cross the line first on Tuesday and helping us get to Varese at the end of July.
