Elizabeth Johnson

This is our friend Elizabeth Johnson. She likes us to call her Lizzy. She is twelve years old. Her father Matt works with Ciara and I. Our families have been indelibly woven together since Ci and I moved to Maine 3 years ago. They have become our neighbors, our friends, our co-workers, our brother and our daughter. Lizzy is about to become a big sister for the first time in 3 weeks and last Monday her heart began to fail her. On October 24, Lizzy was rushed to Boston Children's Hospital. She has been placed in a medically induced coma while doctor's study her heart. Currently, a machine is bypassing her heart in hopes that her heart can rest and heal. Doctors have concluded a heart transplant may be Lizzy’s only hope. Matt has not left her side and has no intention of doing so. Lizzy’s road to recovery will be long and arduous. But Lizzy is not alone and remains one of the strongest little girls we've ever met.

We are overwhelmed. Money will not heal Lizzy’s heart. But with mounting medical expenses, travel, accommodations, a looming Maine winter and a newborn on the way Matt and Lizzy need some help.
