USC students facing legal repression
Donation protected
On the night of April 23rd, 2024, two University of South Carolina students—a queer Black male and a disabled trans student—were arrested as they were leaving a protest to put pressure on university admin to cut ties with war profiteers and arms manufacturers. This protest came after years of Israeli occupation in Palestine and months after an increase in violence from Israeli forces.
The students were arrested sometime after the event, while attempting to walk home without incident, following police orders to leave. Due to their identities, both students faced increased brutality and harassment from the police. The individuals are also facing educational repercussions and were suspended from campus, rendered unable to access their dorms, and effectively homeless.
These students spent a night in jail and were released on PR bond. They are now seeking legal representation for their court proceedings. The combined cost for both students’ representation will total $3,000. Any funds raised will be used to cover these students’ legal fees. Any excess funds raised will be used to help other individuals facing charges for their political activism.
These students would like to thank you for any support you offer them <3
