My name is Josh Mann, and I am honored to serve as the class president for the University of Southern Mississippi's Nurse Anesthesia Program class of 2025. Today, I am reaching out to you with a vital fundraising initiative that not only enhances patient care but also addresses the pressing issue of the opioid epidemic in the United States.

As future nurse anesthetists, our primary goal is to ensure the safety, comfort, and well-being of our patients throughout their surgical journeys. We firmly believe that one of the keys to achieving this lies in equipping ourselves with state-of-the-art technology, such as Butterfly Ultrasound Probes. These remarkable devices enable us to visualize internal structures, nerves, and vessels in real-time, empowering us to provide anesthesia with enhanced precision and care.

One of the critical applications of ultrasound probes is the performance of regional nerve blocks. By utilizing these probes, we can administer nerve blocks with improved safety and precision. Ultrasound-guided regional nerve blocks allow us to accurately locate target nerves, visualize nearby structures, and precisely administer the block, minimizing the risk of complications and maximizing patient safety.

However, the benefits of ultrasound guidance extend far beyond nerve blocks alone. The use of Butterfly Ultrasound Probes enables us to:

Perform Vascular Access: Ultrasound guidance helps us locate and visualize veins, allowing for more accurate insertion of catheters and reducing the risk of complications.

Guide Central Line Placement: By visualizing anatomical structures and assessing vessel patency, ultrasound probes aid in the safe and precise placement of central lines, reducing the risk of inadvertent puncture or injury.

Facilitate Perioperative Assessment: Real-time visualization with ultrasound probes allows us to assess cardiac function, identify potential abnormalities, and guide perioperative management decisions, ensuring optimal patient care.

Moreover, the use of ultrasound-guided techniques also plays a crucial role in reducing the reliance on opioids during and after surgery, contributing to the ongoing fight against the opioid epidemic. By minimizing the need for opioids, we actively promote safer anesthesia practices and alleviate the risk of opioid-related complications and addiction.

However, the cost of acquiring the necessary Butterfly Ultrasound Probes for our entire cohort is substantial, amounting to $47,500. This exceeds our available resources, which is why we are reaching out to you today.
