USMS TFO Sgt. Major Romulo de Los Santos Vargas

We are deeply saddened by the sudden and tragic loss of Task Force Officer Sgt. Major Romulo de Los Santos Vargas.

On Monday evening, September 12th, 2022, Sgt Major Vargas was driving home on his motorcycle in Santo Domingo when he was brutally attacked and murdered by a group of thieves trying to steal his motorcycle. Romulo tried to resist and escape his assailants but was senselessly shot and killed over his motorcycle. Romulo, known as Vargas, was a team leader and member of the United States Marshals Service, Dominican Republic Foreign Field Office, Fugitive Investigative Unit for six years. Always with a smile on his face and passionate about every mission he was given. He was the heart and soul of the team, and he will truly be missed. He was and always will be our brother.

Romulo leaves behind his wife and daughter.

The United States Marshals Dominican Republic, Foreign Field Office Fugitive Investigative Unit, investigates, locates and arrests USMS fugitives hiding in the Dominican Republic and returns them to the USA to face justice. In the six years Vargas has been a member of this unit; he has safely arrested hundreds of the most dangerous and desperate fugitives wanted by the United States.
