About the Sea Cadets:
The Naval Sea Cadet Corps is for American youth ages 10-18 who have the desire to learn about the Navy, Marine Corps, Coast Guard and Merchant Marine. Sea Cadets are authorized by the Secretary of the Navy to wear Navy uniforms appropriately marked with the Sea Cadet Corps insignia. The objectives of the Sea Cadet program are to introduce youth to naval life, to develop in them a sense of pride, patriotism, courage, and self-reliance, and to maintain an environment free of drugs and gangs.
The Lone Star Squadron (Sea Cadets) was commissioned by the USNSCC in 1995. Training Ship Lone Star (League Cadets) was commissioned in 2001. Since that time, Lone Star has had the privilege of drilling at Naval Air Station Fort Worth Joint Reserve Base. Lone Star is sponsored by the Fort Worth Council of the Navy League.
History of U.S.S. Lexington:
Commissioned in 1943, she set more records than any other Essex Class carrier in the history of naval aviation. The ship was the oldest working carrier in the United States Navy when decommissioned in 1991.
The Japanese reported LEXINGTON sunk no less than four times! Yet, each time she returned to fight again, leading the propagandist Tokyo Rose to nickname her “The Blue Ghost.” The name is a tribute to the ship and the crew and air groups that served aboard her.
The U.S.S. Lexington is homeported in Corpus Christi, Tx. and provides the community with many great historical opportunities.
What we are asking to help fund:
The Lone Star Squadron is seeking to raise funds for a multi-day event aboard the U.S.S. Lexington where they will learn about the history of the World War Two aircraft carrier. The estimated funds needed for 65 cadets plus the staff is estimated to be around $12,000. plus an additional $2500 for transportation.
