Attend United State of Women Summit

My name is Robin Schlosser and I am the executive director of Reach Out Morongo Basin - a 501c3 non profit #91-1934417 in Twentynine Palms, CA. Reach Out MB serves low income senior and disabled clients in a very rural and isolated region with medical transportation and other services to help keep them living safely and with dignity in their homes. My passion is helping serve those who can no longer help themselves whether due to age, health, income or isolation.
In mid May 2016 I was notified by email that I had been nominated for The United State of Women Summit being held by the White House. I was truly honored and humbled by the nomination as I don't see myself as someone special.
On May 26, 2016 I was notified that I was selected from over 10,000 women from across the United States to attend the White House United State of Women Summit in Washington, D.C. from June 13-15, 2016. I was truly humbled by my selection and I am hoping to attend to represent all the strong women out there who are helping us to move forward to change the world.
I need your help with travel expenses to get there as costs to travel to Washington D.C. on short notice are high. The funds raised would help to cover airlines, hotels, shuttles and bus fair and some meals.
I am not one that is in the habit of asking for things for myself however in this instance I feel I need to because raising awareness of gender equality and change for women is huge for me.
As the director of a non profit I see the challenges faced daily by the women we serve. Difficulty in accessing healthcare, dealing with abuse and living below the poverty level. As a woman of Mexican/American heritage I have faced racial bias and fought against discrimination of minorities and women. Raised by parents who were civil rights activists in the 1960's some of my earliest memories are boycotting stores in support of farmworker rights. In 1988 I became the only licensed female General Contractor in Santa Cruz County in California and ran my construction company for 18 years. I have faced the challenges of raising a family and working full time - worried about child care and health care. And last but not least, I have battled addictions and fought my way free so that I can be a force for good in this world.
Empowering women to increase access to healthcare; leading the way to help women be civic leaders and entrepreneurs; bringing science and technology education to young girls and women; helping minority women face their unique challenges; showing the way to break free of domestic violence and empowering women who have battled their way free of addictions to show them that there is hope and that the strength we have can move mountains for good.
There’s a lot that’s been done by and for women and girls, but there’s still plenty to do. Convened by the White House, this Summit will rally all of us together to celebrate what we’ve achieved, and how we’re going to take action moving forward. We can be true agents of change in our towns, cities, regions and the world and I hope you can help.
