The USPS Art Project
The USPS Art Project is a mail art artist collaboration project, free and open for anyone who wants to participate. The goal is for unique collaborative artworks to be created, allowing the artists to establish deeper connections with others while practicing social distancing and in doing so, are helping the financially struggling USPS by sending and receiving packages. The finished artworks are shared online on the uspsartproject accounts.
Hundreds of artists have joined in the project, ranging from sculpture to painting, drawing, mixed media, fiber art and more from everywhere from Hawaii to New York. The artists now have the opportunity to submit their collaborations for several exhibition opportunities, a hybrid traveling exhibition / theme exhibition with locations and dates secured at five venues thus far. This is a non juried exhibition; artworks are accepted on a rolling submission basis until capacity is reached at each respective exhibition space. Artists who exceed a location’s capacity have the option to enter into the following location.
What this fund will support:
This fund is to support the shipping costs of sending the artworks from one gallery to the next and to return the artworks back to the artists at the end of the exhibition(s). Funds collected will go back to the US Postal Service when using their services for the return shipping expenses. As the project grows, if additional locations are added, this fund will also support the traveling to and from those locations as well.
While some artworks only cost a stamp to send, when packaging together all the hundreds of artworks to go to another location they turn into several large packages that can be traveling long distances. These expenses add up quickly and all donations will go back into those shipping costs, and in doing so, are supporting the USPS again by sending artworks another time.
For the first exhibition alone, $1800 of shipping services were spent to send work to the gallery. Now 4 more locations have been added and hundreds more artworks.

A note of thanks to the participating Artists!
I have been absolutely blown away by the support and enthusiasm for this project. Every day I am thrilled to see what new has been created and inspired by each and every one of your works. It means so much to me that you all have found this project to be rewarding and fulfilling to your creative practices.
Several artists have written to me and said that this project was the first and sometimes only creative thing they have done since the pandemic hit. That this project has pulled them out of a creative stagnation and by working with other artists work, they have learned from the process and inspired to bring those ideas to their regular practice.
Your continued support and creativity has been such an amazing spark for me during this time, and I am so grateful for everyone who has participated. Thank you so much!
Let’s keep this going, your collaborations are a mark of this time in history, thank you again for any contributions you can make to support the project.
