USU Boosting Education in the Papine Communities
Donation protected
The “Teach the Youth” initiative is a programme that sees the
University of Technology, Jamaica Students’ Union going into surrounding inner-city communities of the Papine area to teach students between the ages of 6 -18.
This programme has been active for over twenty (20) years benefiting over five hundred (500) students across five (5) communities annually. The program has also been expanded to include an additional community, namely Hermitage.
The program covers subject areas such as Mathematics, English, Arts and Culture, Home and Family Life Education and Physical Education. In addition to sessions catered to motivational talks, emotional intelligence, financial literacy and restorative justice.
The program culminates with a Sports Day that sees all participating communities coming together in a central location to participate in a day of friendly competitions.
Throughout the duration of the program, meals are provided to the students on a daily basis. Therefore, the aim of this GoFund me is to collect donations that will be used to offset the cost of meal preparation for the students to improve on their overall experience with the program.
