John's road to recovery ❤️‍

Hi, my name is Chelsea and I’m fundraising money to cover my husband's medical bills. On July 15th he left from work early not feeling well. On July 16th he stayed home alone to rest while I atteneded a family event. When I returned home about 5 hours later John was in an incoherent state of mind. I took him to the ER at Spohn South. He was in septic shock. They stabilized him and moved him to the medical-surgical unit where he stayed for 6 days. He had a methicillin susceptible staph infection (MSSA) in his bloodstream that was treated with IV antibiotics. On July 22nd he was diagnosed with endocarditis. The staph infection traveled through his heart and infected the lining of his heart. His aortic heart valve was severely damaged and needed to be surgically replaced. He was transferred to Spohn Shoreline on the 22nd and underwent open heart surgery on the 26th. He was discharged on Augsut 4th and has been at home recovering. He has to take several oral medications and has been receiving IV antibiotic therapy since his first week in the hospital. Over the past few weeks we have been receiving John’s medical bills in the mail. Thankfully John has insurance through his employer but after spending close to a month in the hospital along with his follow-up visits with the PCP, cardiologist, and cardiothoracic surgeon these medical bills have piled up. Prior to John falling ill we were a 2 income household. We are not sure of when he will return to work at this time. He is currently on short-term disability receiving less than half of his regular pay after deductions.

Although it has been a difficult time for us we greatly appreciate all the support, prayers, and well wishes from our friends and family. John still has a long road ahead as he heals and recovers but he is progressing well. All monetary donations would be greatly appreciated!
