Saving Baby Israel

Sweet Baby Israel was born on May 3rd, 2019. Soon after birth, he was diagnosed with Hypoplastic Left Heart Syndrome. This means that the left side of his heart is severely underdeveloped. As a result, he is not able to pump blood, and thus oxygen, to the rest of his body. Right now the only thing keeping him alive is his ductus arteriosus (a fetal blood vessel) being kept open by medication. However, this medication can only be administered for a maximum of 3 weeks, after which nature will take its course.
My family and I, supported by medical personnel and friends, are trying to do everything to save Israel’s life. The options that allow for an increased chance of survival is a series of 3 surgeries or a heart transplant. As Israel is not a US or Canadian citizen, it is not possible for him to be placed on the heart transplant list, leaving us to attempt to get the surgeries done. Unfortunately, the necessary surgeries are not available in Trinidad and Tobago due to lack of resources, facilities and doctors specialized in this area.
The first surgery must take place within the first two weeks of life so we are working on a very limited time frame. We are in close contact with Hospitals in the US but we also need to secure finances in order to proceed with the surgery which has an approximate cost of US$ 250,000 including hospital costs associated with an extended stay in hospital. This is a cost that my family and I cannot afford.
In order to ensure that Israel is able to go through with this procedure, we have come to gofundme to ask for your assistance to make this possible and help save baby Israel.
Thank you in advance for your kindness, generosity and compassion. I am so appreciative of anything you can give. Every little bit counts, just as every moment with Israel is a blessing.
