EVOLUTION MARTIAL ARTS

Hi Everyone,

This is a bit like making a speech, surprisingly nerve racking even though I am hidden behind my keyboard.

As lots of you will already know I am Kelly Buxton, Founder and Head Instructor here at Evolution Martial Arts. I am 5th Dan Black Belt, and multiple champion. I have operated this business for 12 years.

My commitment to customer safety and wellbeing goes without saying - fully qualified personnel, correct equipment and insurances are all in place. I am very serious about this side of things and as a working wife and mother with my family involved I am committed to being in control of everything not just on a business level but a personal level as well.

Sudden Cardiac Arrest however is something sadly nobody can control - without correct intervention 95% of cases will result in the death of the victim. The idea of somebody collapsing and dying in my gym is terrifying, but what is even more shocking is it is preventable. If a defibrillator is available, and confident and competent CPR is delivered immediately then the outcome can be above 75% survival rate.

I am taking control of this today! As a business owner, wife and mum I am taking responsibility to ensure that my club has immediate access to the equipment and training in order to achieve the right outcome if the worst happens.

I have partnered with Dave, Duncan and the guys at 4Sight First Aid of Hyde (CPR and Defib Specialists). 4Sight First Aid is a not for profit company whose surplus funds are reinvested into ongoing training and CP drills. 4Sight aims to get training and confidence into as many people as possible because studies show alarmingly that only 22% of people have the confidence to jump in and help in the event of a real SCA incident. I am aiming to raise the total of about £2,500 in order to buy our own AED machine, and more importantly, get the training on how to confidently use it. 4Sight will come to the gym and get everyone trained up. In addition to this they will also be delivering their well-known and respected CPR drill which is a role play of real incidents and outcomes and how to improve on them. Members of Evolution will also be trained on how to deliver the training and drills on an ongoing basis, as refresher training has been shown to have a big impact in overall outcomes. In return for your help and support and to show our commitment to this project I have arranged to sponsor a regular session at the CPR training facility in Hyde bookable on the 4Sight website you and anyone connected with the GYM such as friends and family, prospective members, staff etc, can book free sessions for the coming 12 months.

Outcome 1

As things stand a cardiac arrest will almost certainly proof fatal and devastating for all involved. Somebody leaves home for the evening for an enjoyable training session and never returns!.........

Outcome 2

Although extremely serious and life threatening when a cardiac event occurs a well drilled team of confident people swing into action with a well-drilled plan. CPR is delivered until the DEFIB is fetched. Electric shock is automatically delivered to restart the heart then placed in a recovery position until the paramedics arrive. . A few days of hospital and there’s full recovery.
