Utrecht to Nairobi Research: What the Unheard say
Donation protected
From a young age, I have wanted to make a positive change in the world. We all recognise our moral responsibility to improve our lifestyle for future generations, but most of us don’t know where to begin.
I have spent the last 4 years developing my understanding of sustainability and after finishing my Civil with Environmental Engineering degree, I have moved to the Netherlands to complete my Masters in Sustainable Development.
For my final semester this year, I will be travelling to rural-Kenya for a 10-week research project to investigate the impact that international agricultural companies have on the food security of local Kenyans. Around 70% of the population of Kenya make their living from agriculture. These farmers produce over 60% of the nation’s food yet 20% of the population is undernourished, and a high percentage do not have adequate food security. The World Bank states that 80% of Kenya’s farmers are female and yet it is often families of these women who do not have adequate food security. African female farmers are at a disadvantage to male farmers due to lower social status, less market knowledge and less access to resources.
I will be interviewing smallholder farmers and employees of large businesses to gather information in hope of improving their living situations and their overall food security. I am launching this Go Fund Me page to ask for support to fund my research project. I am a 23 year old student determined to use my knowledge to bring awareness and change. I have no financial aid and will appreciate any donations to help reach my goal.
It is difficult for one person to make a difference alone, but that one person can raise awareness for many people to make a substantial difference together. Let’s work together and make a difference.
Thank you for your time and consideration.
