A Home of Our Own

Life has a funny way of making you grow. If you would’ve told me four years ago I would still be displaced (because you're not officially homeless if you’re not in a shelter), still struggling to find a place we could call home YET working a full-time job, I wouldn't have believed you.
I refused to believe it would take that long to get into a place!
Yet here I am.
Finally, on the cusp of achieving that last thing--a place to call home.
Hi, my name is Porsche. I am a 35-year-old writer and mother of three beautiful, amazing children: 10-year-old Serenity, 7-year-old JJ, and 4-year-old Gabriel. They are my world and save my life everyday.
I suffer from multiple mental and physical illnesses including lupus, avascular necrosis in both hips, intracranial hypertension, and bipolar I.
I am on the autism spectrum--and I suspect my kids are as well (but that’s our super power *wink*).
We have been couch surfing since Gabe was a few months old.
We FINALLY have the opportunity to move into a place of our own. For the past two years plus this one, my kids have asked for a HOME for Christmas.
This year, I can finally give it to them. We are so close!
Being in a safe place that is our own means more to us than any present we could find under a tree.
To be able to sleep in our own beds brings tears to my eyes.
We currently sleep on the floor, on an air mattress with a slow leak and a broken futon.
While I am thankful that we do have a warm, safe space to be during the cold midwestern winter, there is nothing like having your own bed. To be able to cook our own meals, bake as much as we’d like! All three of my kids inherited my love to bake and we aren’t able to do much of anything where we are. They love to paint, but where we live, they can't. I will be able to nurture their interest in our new space where they feel safe to take chances and grow. This home of our own.
My very first landlord when I left my college dorms knows me and my family and is giving me this chance! All I need now is help securing the move in-costs. In my northern Illinois town, we have to pay first, last and security to move in. I have the first month. I am asking you to help with the last and security.
Each and every dollar helps, and will be received with the utmost love and gratitude.
Thank you so much for taking the time to read and for your kind thoughts, wishes, prayers and donations,
