Uvell Needs a New Bed and Quadriplegic Mattress
Donation protected
Friends, family, and everyone in the wider community who can empathize with individuals who must live their entire life in a hospital bed, your kindness and consideration are needed.
On March 04, 2017, the life of my godfather, Uvell Ernest Reaves, Jr. changed forever. While inspecting and generating an estimate for the historic and iconic Sellers Mansion at 801 North Arlington Ave. in Baltimore, MD, Mr. Reaves fell through several levels of weakened, dilapidated flooring and received a number of critical injuries that would change his life forever. His worst injuries would be to his spine and neck. Injuries he would not recover from.
Although he still finds a way to give to others, Mr. Reaves is now a quadriplegic, and is in need of many things himself. For his personal comfort and to make the job of his caregivers easier, we are trying to purchase a new electronic hospital bed and a special mattress that should give him relief from the bed sores that are a continuing problem. I have included images for the bed model and mattress just in case someone out there knows of a charity that we were unable to find in our research.
It has been more than four years since Uvell’s accident, and despite his misfortune he has remained positive and in relatively good spirits. Uvell spends his time lending his extensive business knowledge to others, and is a volunteer board member of an organization that is bringing an amateur olympics event to Baltimore. He avoids depression by bringing joy to others.
Uvell has the support of his family and top-notch medical professionals, but the bed and mattress he needs are considerably out of our reach financially. We are asking for any financial support that will not take away from your own family and needs. Keep in mind that no donation is too small, and may God bless all who donate.
UPDATE 1:
We let Uvell know that we were doing this Gofundme on his behalf and other than being gracious and appreciative, he had the following message to everyone who is not able to give a cash donation...
"I appreciate all of you for even clicking the link and learning about my need at this time. But for those of you who can not donate, please just pick the phone up on occasion and reach out to me. I've accepted my situation, but I still worry about each of you. Let me know how your families are doing. Let's talk about those Baltimore Ravens. Tell me who graduated from high school or college, and who is getting married. If you're starting a business, call me for advice. Everything is not about money. Sometimes people just need to know that they are still needed."
Thank you,
Uvell Ernest Reaves, Jr.
